HUNGRIA.- Three hungarians top world rankings

Hungary’s Judit Polgár, who has recently retired from professional sport, leads women’s chess world rankings, while Richárd Rapport came first among junior players and Annamária Marjanovics tops female world rankings in the U-14 age group on listings published by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) valid from 1 January.

According to the Hungarian federation, it counts as a “world record” that Ms. Polgár, who has recently retired from active playing, leads the international field for the 84th time with her present position. She was also included in male rankings, in which she holds the 67th position. Among female players, another Hungarian, Hoang Thanh Trang in 28th position, is also listed among the best.

In the junior ae group, young grand master Richárd Rapport came first in world rankings, who with his 2716 Elo points also tops the field of Hungarian adults. In addition to him, Péter Lékó (2713 points) and Zoltán Almási (2701 points) are also among the so-called “super grand masters”, and a total of six players made it into the top 100.

In the U-14 age group, female rankings are lead by Hungarian Annamária Marjanovics, who has scored 2247 points.
